Reality is a question of perspective.

Updated: May 11, 2020

As individuals we all go through different things in life, two people may find themselves in similar positions or situations but their experiences and outcomes however will differ.

We are all familiar with the well known saying “every man thinks his burden is the heaviest” by Bob-Marley and if we were to reflect on our lives especially in times of trouble. We will agree to it, however we never get to sulk about what we are enduring for too long because we always happen to encounter someone who has been dealing with a lot as well, yet he or she still manages to not murmur about what they go through and continue being grateful.

Those who know me, will know that my late grandmother passed away due to cancer. However, if there is one thing in her life which remained constant then it was her reluctance to complain. Even whilst struggling to lift herself from her chair or hurrying to place her hands on her back as the pain so suddenly stung, she would look at us and say “don’t worry about me, i’ll be fine”.

If you were to ask me, my grandmothers perspective with regards to her situation is what kept her going. So many times we find ourselves in situations which may seem unbearable and the first thing we tend to do is give up. Instead of choosing to find a silver lining, we allow ourself to believe “this is the end” and that “it does not get better from here” but those are all lies!It does get better and it will, if only we shift our perspective on

life and renew our minds.

We have one of two choices:

1. We can stay where we are and both believe and tell ourselves that it does not get better OR

2. We can declare what we are facing right now is only temporary and that we will see better days.

Whichever option we decide to go with, will determine both our outcome and experience of what we are going through. And make no mistake, choosing the latter does not mean that it will be easy but as cliche as it sounds it will be worth it.

In aid of assisting you and encouraging a shift in perspective, below are two things you can do to make welcoming a new perspective easier:

1.Find something you are grateful for

2. Identify one or more silver linings which you can deduce from your situation, jot them all down and stick it to a wall in your room.

Whenever things seem to be overwhelming or like you just can't keep on keeping on anymore, take a look at that page and remind yourself that your best days are ahead of you!
